Tom-Jelte Slagter will ride for the Pro Continental cycling team Vital Concept-B & B Hotels next season. The 30-year-old Dutchman comes over from Team Dimension Data and signs with the French formation for one year.
"I changed things in my training and I hope that with this team I will be able to deliver top performance again," Slagter said on the website of his new team on Monday. "This one-year contract is ideal because I have to discover French culture and the races on the French calendar."
Slagter rode in the past for Rabobank, successors Blanco and Belkin and between 2014 and 2017 with the predecessors of the current EF Education First Pro Cycling. The last two years he played for Team Dimension Data. At Vital Concept-B & B Hotels the Groninger meets an old acquaintance with Pierre Rolland.
"He is a rider whom I really appreciate and above all a very good guy. It is nice to meet each other again in a project of which much is still unclear to me", says Slagter, who joined Rolland in 2016 between 2017 and 2017. Cannondale Drapac drove.
The 2019 cycling year is not going to be the best year for Slagter. The Dutchman did not compete in a big lap and could hardly show himself in the great classics (51st in Milan-San Remo and 43rd in Liège-Bastogne-Liège). His best performance is sixth place in the Quebec GP.
Slagter's biggest win is the final classification in the Tour Down Under of 2013. A year later he finished sixth in Liege-Bastogne-Liege and achieved his best performance in a great classic.
