The Portland Thorns are ready for the playoffs in the US high-ranking NWSL after finishing third. But even more impressive are the team's numbers. During the basic series, the team attracted 20,098 spectators on average, just under 10,000 more than the second on the Utah Royals list.

It had given a second place in the Swedish public league, where there are certainly three rounds remaining. There, Hammarby tops with 23,332 on average, with AIK finishing second at 19,299.

In damallsvenskan the average is 865, where the most crowd-pleasing match is Linköping-Kristianstad with 2866 spectators.

As a further comparison, the BBC included audience figures across Europe comparing the audience sections of several different women's clubs. Wolfsburg then had the highest average of 1689 spectators, while the second Chelsea attracted 1864 spectators on average.

The gentlemen of Portland also attract crowds. They have an average of 25,218 spectators this season, which is the arena's capacity.

SVT was in Portland last year to understand what the secret behind the numbers is.
