Bert van Marwijk also won the second qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday. The UAE was 5-0 too strong for Indonesia.
The UAE was halfway 'only' on a 1-0 lead through a goal from Khalifa Al Hammadi, but still expressed the quality difference in the score after the break.
Ali Mabkhout accounted for 2-0, 3-0 and 4-0 in more than twenty minutes, after which Tariq Hassan set the final score at 5-0 in the injury time of the second half.
Van Marwijk and co are leading Group G with six points from two games, followed by Thailand, Vietnam (both four out of two), Malaysia (three out of three) and Indonesia (zero out of three).
Erwin Koeman also wins second qualifier with Oman
Earlier on Thursday, Erwin Koeman and Oman also won the second qualifier for the World Championship in three years. The Omanians dealt with Afghanistan 3-0.
Oman led 2-0 halfway through two goals from Abdulaziz Al Muqbali, after which it became 3-0 after the break thanks to a good penalty by Mohsin Al Ghassani.
Koeman and co occupy the second place in group E with six points from two games, but leader Qatar is already assured of a ticket as a host country for the coming World Cup and therefore does not count.
The Asian World Cup qualification is currently in the second round, which consists of eight groups of five countries. All group winners and the four best numbers two qualify for the third of a total of four qualifying rounds.
