Hakim Ziyech will not play during the next two international matches of Morocco. The midfielder of Ajax dropped out at 'De Leeuwen van de Atlas' due to fatigue.
National coach Vahid Halilhodzic confirmed on Wednesday at a press conference that he has given 26-year-old Ziyech permission to return to Ajax earlier.
Ziyech was called up for the friendly international matches against Libya (Friday) and Gabon (Tuesday). In those matches, Morocco is preparing for a qualifying campaign for the 2021 African Cup in Cameroon.
The Halilhodzic team starts that qualifying series on November 15 with a home game against Mauritania. Burundi and the Central African Republic are the other two opponents in the group stage. The first two countries in the group qualify for the Africa Cup.
At Ajax, Ziyech can prepare for a busy period. After the international match, the team from Amsterdam play three games in nine days. The team of coach Erik ten Hag visits RKC Waalwijk and plays at home against Chelsea and Feyenoord.
Ajax and PSV lose private practice matches
On Wednesday Ajax played a closed exhibition game with SC Heerenveen. In the Abe Lenstra Stadium, 1-0 was lost by a goal from Jordy Bruijn in the fourteenth minute.
Most internationals were missing from the ruling national champion. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Siem de Jong and Edson Álvarez, among others, did participate and some youth players were given the opportunity to prove themselves.
PSV also played a private exhibition game. The Eindhoven team lost 0-1 at De Herdgang against the Belgian Waasland-Beveren by a goal from Din Sula.
Gastón Pereiro made his unofficial return after a fracture of the collarbone, which he sustained in mid-August. Ibrahim Afellay and Ryan Thomas also had a base position at PSV, for which Kostas Mitroglou missed a penalty.
