It was in the first round that Hungarian Bence Halasz got the sledge 78,18 which extended all the way to bronze. A protest was submitted by the Polish national team leadership, who pointed out that it was clear that Halasz had been up on the ring edge with his feet in his throw, a rule breach.

After the discharge in the first round, Halazs then had only one approved throw, one at 73.76 in the fifth round. Nowicki, on the other hand, had four throws over 76 yards and finished four at 77.69.

- It was important for me to take a medal. I am at the beginning of my career and am so proud. I got very tired after the fourth throw, said 22-year-old Halasz to the International Athletic Association IAAF before the jury decision came.

The jury chose not to wash Halasz afterwards because he got the first cast approved and competed with that knowledge.

The jury writes:

“The irregularities mentioned in the decision concern a disputed first throw by the Hungarian athlete. The jury considers that the decision on the first throw affected the Hungarian athlete's attitude towards his remaining attempts. Therefore, the jury has decided that the most fair for both athletes is that two bronze medals should be awarded. ”
