• Guardiola Defends Bernardo Silva, accused of racism: "He is charming"

The English Football Federation (FA) officially accused Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva on Wednesday after writing to fellow Benjamin Mendy a tweet that purported to be humorous, but could be considered racist.

The Portuguese international is accused of "misconduct" in social networks with the aggravating fact that in his tweet he referred to race, color or ethnicity.

On September 22, after a game, Silva tweeted a photo of his partner Mendy as a child, accompanied by a character from a Spanish brand of chocolate-dipped peanuts. An image that is still used by the "Conguitos" brand.

The French international, very friendly with Silva and very active in social networks, gave a 'like' to the tweet, but the controversy did not take long to explode. Silva quickly deleted the tweet , posting another later: "You can't even joke with a friend these days ... Honestly, guys ..." he wrote next to an emoticon showing a shocked person.

The Portuguese sent a letter to the FA to apologize to all the people who felt offended by that tweet, ensuring that he learned the lesson. Mendy sent a message of support to his partner towards the authorities to say that he had not felt insulted. Even Guardiola downplayed him, remembering that the good relationship between two "brothers" soccer players and calling a midfielder a "big mistake."

But Silva's social media past was examined with magnifying glass and in a video before the 2018/2019 season , Silva says that Mendy, dressed in black, was completely naked.

The FA had made it known that it would extend its investigation to "all the history of social networks" of Silva.

The player has until October 9 to defend himself before the authorities of English football.
