The volleyball players suffered their fifth defeat at the World Cup in Osaka on Saturday. The Orange lost to the Dominican Republic in five sets.

The team from the Caribbean took the first two sets, after which the Dutch team fought back nicely. In the decisive fifth set, however, the Dominican Republic was clearly too strong: 25-23, 25-22, 25-27, 18-25 and 15-4.

With 29 points, Lonneke Sloëtjes was the best player on the Orange side. Celeste Plak (seventeen) and Marrit Jasper (fourteen) were also in good shape.

The team of coach Jamie Morisson won five of his ten matches in the World Cup and is therefore in the middle bracket, just like the Dominican Republic. On Sunday, the Orange squad will play its last game against host country Japan.

China and the United States compete for the overall victory in the World Cup, which for Orange is primarily a preparation tournament for the Olympic qualification tournament in January in Apeldoorn.
