The Nepalese climber Nirmal Purja has climbed Mount Manaslu , setting a new world record by reaching 13 of the 14 highest peaks in the world in six months, as the organizer of the expedition advanced on Friday.

The former British soldier, 36, has the mission of climbing the 14 highest peaks in the world in seven months . "Manaslu climbed successfully [8,163 meters] on Friday morning," said Thaneswar Guragai of Seven Summits Trek in Kathmandu.

The Purja challenge encountered an obstacle when Chinese authorities closed Shishpangmaa , the fourteenth highest mountain in the world, arguing safety concerns, including bad weather conditions for the closing of this season.

On Monday, before heading to Manaslu, Purja wrote in social networks: "I hope they will allow me to climb the mountain in good faith in human effort." In 1987, Polish climber Jerzy Kukuczka reached the 14 highest peaks in the world in seven years, 11 months and 14 days.
