A rough draft when it came into play against Tonga (35-3), England set the record straight on the occasion of the second day of the group phase of the Rugby World Cup . Faced with a very weak selection of the United States, the English have never trembled (45-7), and they even ensured the offensive bonus from the hour of play, by signing the fourth of their seven tries.

The Eagles, who were cornered, cracked as early as the fifth minute, when Ford made the opening line for the first time (7-0, 6). Behind, it was Vunipola (14-0, 25th) and Cowan-Dickie (19-0, 33e) who were responsible for adding to the bill before half-time.

The score assured, the English have continued to propose the game, likely encouraged to multiply the breakthroughs faced with a defenseless American defense (forty missed tackles). And the tests were chained. Cokanasiga (24-0, 48th), McConnochie (31-0, 58th) and Ludlam (38-0, 67th) flattened in their turn, to give a little more scale to the score.

Frustrated, the Eagles even logically ended the game at 14 after Quill's 70th-minute dismissal for a dangerous move on Farrell. In numerical superiority, the XV of the Rose has added a little more the note, Cokasinaga offering a double at the end of the match (45-0, 76th). But the Americans, on a last ball, still managed to save the honor, by registering a test by Campbell, after the stops of play (45-7, 80th + 2).

With this new victory, the second in two games, England is more than ever ahead of Pool C, which also includes France and Argentina outsiders.

Full box for Italians

A little earlier in the day, Italy made its second outing in this world, after a boosted success, without force, against the weak Namibia (47-22). A second set-up scheduled against Canada, which was no problem for the teammates of Sergio Parisse (48-7), rested for the occasion.

Faced with Canucks too rough in the last move, the Azzurri have sent the game but especially hurt their opponent on the balloons worn, and it is logical that they concluded the first act on a wide advantage (17-0), after including two tries scored by Steyn (8th) and Budd (13th).

After a little slack at the end of the first period, the Italians accelerated again after the break, scoring again by Negri (44), before pushing the rearguard at fault, at the time of game. A penalty try conceded by the Canadians, plus a yellow card for Eaton (31-0, 59th) allowed Italy to insure the offensive bonus.

And behind, the Squadra Azzura unfurled by piercing the opposing defense three more times, by Bellini (62), Zani (73) and Minozzi (79). Not without having conceded anyway a nice test against, signed Coe, which allowed valiant Canadians to save the honor (48-7).

But four years to the day after the last duel between the two World Cup selections, hard won by Italy (23-18), the men of the Irish Conor O'Shea confirm that they have found a bit of their superb. Before two huge tests against the Springboks and All Blacks.
