Barcelona captain Lionel Messi appears to have been appalled by the extent of his injury in the first half of Tuesday's Primera Liga match against Villarreal.

Bulga suffered a muscle injury in his left leg that prevented him from returning to the stadium in the second half of the match, which ended with Barca's 2-1 win.

Barcelona said in a statement on Wednesday that the medical tests he had undergone showed that he had a dilated muscle in the connective muscle of the left thigh.

Cameras caught a Spanish program, Messi, telling a therapist in the medical staff, "I don't want to hit," and then repeat the same phrase again.

It is Messi's second injury in two months and may be forced to miss the international team during the international suspension early next month, in order to get a break and avoid any further complications.

Villarreal's debut was the first major game of the season after the two Champions League games against Granada in La Liga and Dortmund.

The club did not disclose the duration of the absence of the team's top scorer, and stressed that his response to treatment will determine the length of his absence.

According to Spanish reports, the winner of the World Player of the Year will miss the match against Getafe next Saturday, while doubts about his participation in the Champions League match against Inter Milan next Wednesday.
