Agents of the National Police, together with the AMERIPOL (Community of Police of America), have arrested six cyclists from an ovetense club in Madrid and Asturias and five others, related to the world of cycling, for distributing doping substances. Among those arrested is a former senior member of the Spanish Cycling Federation and a municipal office responsible for organizing sporting events. The network obtained the medicines destined to improve sports performance through the exchange between the athletes themselves, through a provider pharmacy located in an Asturian municipality and internationally, in countries such as Colombia, Venezuela, Chile or Belarus. To avoid being discovered in their communications they used their own language, with keywords, such as "pods" or "gas" to replace doses or the doping products themselves, the Police reported.

The investigation began upon receiving information from AMERIPOL, about the possible existence of an organized group formed by people and athletes linked to the world of cycling . Mainly, this organization located in the Principality of Asturias was specialized in the acquisition, storage and distribution of illegal medicines, including dopants. The agents of the National Police corroborated the information and showed, in addition to the involvement of cyclists, the existence of a complex logistic apparatus that was profit, not only for sporting activity , but for the supply of illegal products and the preparation of races according to the abilities of cyclists.

A bag thrown in a container

Shortly after, the agents seized a bag that had previously been thrown into a container by several of the members of the investigated team. After recovering the abandoned bag and looking at its contents, different ampoules of illegal products, syringes, needles and empty boxes of substances used to improve sports performance were intervened. With this new evidence, the researchers delved into the investigation and discovered that the network supplied the doping drugs through two routes. A national, exchanging them between the athletes themselves or through a pharmacy located in an Asturian municipality. And, another international, through the countries of origin of the investigated themselves.

Insulin, growth hormone or testosterone

In addition, three records have been made in three homes located in various parts of Asturias and seized illegal drugs, including growth hormone, insulin, testosterone and injectable vitamins , several mobile phones and computer equipment.
