Ona Carbonell, the most successful in the history of Spanish swimming, announced this Saturday through a statement his withdrawal from the competition, two months after winning three medals in the World synchronized World of Gwangju (South Korea) to devote more time to his family.

"I have recorded in my memory my first participation in an Olympic Games. It was in London, in 2012, and I remember it as one of the most special moments of my life. A girl's dream that became a reality and that, in addition I had the good fortune to be able to repeat four years later in Rio de Janeiro, but this year, at the gates of a new Olympic challenge, I find myself in a different personal situation. After meditating a lot with my family, talking and valuing it carefully with my coach, and later with the rest of the team, I have decided that at this moment I want to step aside, "said the Barcelona swimmer.

The Spanish swimmer added in Korea, with her two silvers in free and technical only and the bronze in 'highlight' by teams, 23 medals in the World Cups which made her the woman with more FINA metals and the third athlete with more medals, only behind the Americans Michael Phelps (33) and Ryan Lochte (27).
