Daniil Kvyat will not be Max Verstappen's teammate at Red Bull Racing in 2020. The Russian remains with his current racing team Toro Rosso, Helmut Marko of Red Bull confirmed to NUsport on Saturday.

Kvyat told Friday in Singapore that he saw himself as a contender for the second seat at Red Bull in the coming season. However, Red Bull CEO Marko - who is among other things about the drivers - said on Saturday that the battle was between Alexander Albon and Pierre Gasly.

After more than a year without a chair, Kvyat returned to Toro Rosso in 2019. There he replaced Pierre Gasly, who had the opportunity to join the Red Bull main team. After twelve races, the Frenchman had to make way for Albon, the current teammate of Verstappen.

Kvyat said Friday that he would accept any decision and that he would like to continue at Toro Rosso if he didn't get the chance at Red Bull.

This year he gave the sister team a podium place by becoming third in Germany. The Russian debuted with his current team in Formula 1 in 2014, after which he got the chance in 2015 at Red Bull.

Kvyat was replaced in 2016 by Verstappen

After disappointing results, Verstappen took over his seat in 2016. Kvyat lost his shape after that, but since his return, the 25-year-old driver has performed well.

That is why he seemed to be eligible for a long time for the seat next to Verstappen at Red Bull. That place now seems to be in the hands of Albon, about whom team boss Christian Horner spoke enthusiastically on Friday. The Thai Briton has performed "impressively" in the first two races since he took over from Gasly, Horner said.

This weekend the fifteenth Grand Prix of the season will be held in Singapore. The qualification starts on Saturday at 3 p.m. The race will start on Sunday at 2.10 p.m.
