The Executive Office of the Gulf Football Association has agreed in principle to Iraq's request to host the 25th edition of the Gulf Cup.

This came in a meeting of the Executive Office held today in the Qatari capital Doha, in the presence of the President of the Iraqi Football Federation Abdul Khaliq Masoud, along with the presidents of the federations of Kuwait, Oman and Yemen, as well as Qatar.

A statement from the Iraqi Football Federation said that the federation will make a formal request at the next meeting of the executive office of the Gulf Federation, which will be held on the sidelines of the 24th version to be hosted by Doha, starting from 27 October next.

The statement pointed out that Iraq's desire to host the tournament was received with broad support from the presidents of the federations, as a natural right for Iraq, especially after the lifting of the ban on the organization of official matches in Iraqi stadiums.

The Iraqi federation pledged to cooperate with the concerned institutions to successfully host the tournament, which comes four decades after Iraq hosted the first tournament.
