Henna Johansson is part of the wrestling wonder from Gällivare together with sisters Sofia and Johanna Mattsson. Jenny Fransson, who is wrestling-bred in Rosviks IK outside Piteå, is now competing again for Gällivare SK.

A quartet that has more or less dominated Swedish national team wrestling for over a decade. Together, they have taken home 30 championship medals since 2008.

- Four wrestlers from Gällivare in the world top - that's pretty cool, says Henna Johansson.

Everyone wrestled in Gällivare

As a child, growing up was characterized by wrestling.

- In the past, in my childhood, everyone in our age wrestled. Everyone who is between 25 and 35 years now in Gällivare has been on the crime mat.

All four have long lived in Skåne and now Helsingborg is the base. Sisters Mattsson and veteran Fransson have received the most headlines in recent years, but ahead of this year's World Cup in Kazakhstan, Henna Johansson has shown the best form. It was a loss in the bronze match in the European Championships last spring (65 kg class), but this year Johansson has won four international competitions.

- There have been very good starting fields in all competitions. It has been fun to be at the top of the podium with so many merits behind it, says Johansson.

Took the EM bronze as a 17-year-old

As a 17-year-old she took the European bronze medal (2009). Shortly thereafter it became the World Cup bronze (2010) and the European gold (2012), but then it took six years before Johansson took home a new championship medal in the form of an European bronze (2018).

But now she has the feeling that she can beat anyone in the world top.

- The shape feels better than ever. It is very nice to enter the World Cup and feel that this time I am in the match. The other times it has been more that if I have a good day I can succeed, but it has never felt this good.

One reason is that she has found the right weight class. In the second half of the current season, Johansson has gone down to the 62 kg Olympics and competed out the Swedish competitors Johanna Mattsson and Moa Nygren.

- The opponents I meet feel the less and I just feel stronger, and I have never known that before.

Can secure OS location

The World Cup is the first chance for the wrestlers to arrange an Olympic site for Tokyo next summer. Everyone who reaches medal matches - six places in each weight class - has secured a national place.

- It will be incredibly tough, but this is the best chance. So I want to take the chance now.

Johansson is chasing his third Olympics after two straight tenth places at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 and London 2012 games.

- And there you have to go to the final. It is extremely tough. It is almost harder to get to the Olympics than to be there and take a medal.

Henna Johansson enters the World Cup on Thursday. A possible medal match will be decided on Friday.
