The Dutch baseball players started the Olympic qualifying tournament (OKT) on Wednesday. In the Italian Parma, the Czech Republic was beaten 4-1.
Calten Daal walked into the first run in the first inning. In the fourth inning, the Czechs came alongside, but in the tying at bat, it became 2-1 via Ademar Rifaela. Next, Dwayne Kemp and John Polonius gave the Orange a comfortable 4-1 lead in the fifth inning.
The kingdom team will also play against Israel, Spain, South Africa and the host country in Italy in the coming days. The winner of the OKT qualifies for the Olympic Games in Tokyo next summer and for the number two of the event there will be a second chance in another OKT.
Last week the Netherlands crowned itself as the European champion for the 23rd time. At the European Championships in Germany, the Czech Republic lost 8-6, but Italy won 5-1 in the final.
Shurendy Valeriano had to retire injured for the OKT in Italy on Wednesday. His place in the selection was taken at the last minute by Randolph Oduber.
On Thursday, the Orange squad will face Israel in Parma. The game starts at 8 p.m.
