Diego Maradona began his tenure as coach of Gimnasia E. Esgrima with a 2-1 home defeat by Racing in the Argentine football league due to a host of defensive errors.
Maradona took charge of the struggling club last week and his presence was lively during the match in La Plata, near Buenos Aires.
However, a mistake by Gimnasia goalkeeper E. Esgrima allowed his opponent to take the lead in the 36th minute and although Matias Garcia leveled for Gimnasia six minutes into the second half, the team retreated again two minutes later after a defensive latch that gave Federico Zaracho the chance to score.
