On Monday, September 16, the Kuzminskiy District Court of Moscow arrested the former hockey player Igor Musatov for a month. The 31-year-old athlete, whose last club was the Bratislava Slovan, was on the federal wanted list on suspicion of embezzlement of funds by fraud.

“To satisfy the petition of the investigation to elect Musatov a preventive measure in the form of detention until October 15,” the judge announced her decision.

On September 16, information appeared on the website of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Moscow, which allegedly refers to Musatov. According to these data, a criminal case has been opened against a certain man on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Committing fraud on an especially large scale committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy”). The punishment under this article can be up to 10 years in prison.

“It was established that in January 2018, an attacker rented an office on Maly Kislovsky Lane, which, together with two acquaintances, equipped it for a bank building. Then he agreed with a local resident that he would exchange him 45 million rubles for a type of cryptocurrency in the amount of 103 units at a lower cost, ”said the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Irina Volk.

According to her, when the victim came to the office and transferred the money, one of the attackers fled. Subsequently, the criminals divided the stolen funds. Musatov’s accomplice has been placed under house arrest; measures are also being taken to detain their possible accomplice.

The fact that the silver medalist of the 2007 World Youth Championship, Igor Musatov, is suspected of fraud, on Sunday, September 15, TASS reported, citing a source close to the investigation.

“Igor is accused of fraud, but he does not admit his guilt. We believe that the relations that arose as a result of the exchange of cryptocurrency are exclusively civil law, and there can be no criminal liability for this transaction, ”360 television channel quoted the words of lawyer Alexander Karabanov.

At the same time, during the court session, Musatov said that he "became a victim of a slander." According to him, he only brought people together and "did not enter into financial relations." In addition, the athlete was surprised to learn that he was on the federal wanted list.

“I visited public places, moved behind the wheel, nobody was interested in me. I have no reason to hide somewhere, on the contrary, I would like to figure it out, ”RIA Novosti quoted Musatov as saying.

Drunken fights and wedding with Kanaeva

As for Musatov’s sports career, the striker spent many matches in the KHL. The pupil of the Moscow “Spartak” made his debut as part of his native team back in 2005 at the age of 17 years. After a couple of years, a talented hockey player was noticed at Ak Bars, and Igor moved to Kazan.

Then Musatov played for Neftekhimik, and in 2009 he returned to Spartak. Also in the athlete’s career were Atlant, Salavat Yulaev, Lokomotiv, Vanguard and Slovan, which the striker left in 2017. After that, the hockey player was in the status of a free agent and could not find a new team.

Meanwhile, Musatov was well known not only for his game, but also for scandals related to alcohol intoxication. So, in 2011, Igor, being a player of Atlanta, beat a bus driver in the center of Moscow, and just a week before that he was detained by law enforcement agencies for driving while intoxicated. After another detention, the athlete completely managed to escape from the police station.

Four years later, Musatov fell into a new scandal. This time, the hockey player did not want to pay the bill in the Moscow bar, which was only 1700 rubles. The athlete came into conflict with the staff of the institution, after which they called the police. There, the hockey player continued to behave aggressively, in particular, threw shoes at the police. Omsk “Vanguard”, for which Musatov spoke at that time, reacted to the incident as harshly as possible.

"Everything is very simple. Behavior unworthy of an athlete - this time. Second: a decision was made earlier not to renew the contract with Musatov for the next season. Therefore, we did not even invite him to the training camp that begins today. We told him: “You can not come to the training camp,” the Komsomolskaya Pravda quoted club president Vladimir Shalaev as saying.

And already being in the status of a free agent, the hockey player made a new brawl in another metropolitan institution, and he had a pistol with cartridges with him.

Musatov is married to the famous gymnast, two-time Olympic champion Evgenia Kanaeva. The wedding took place in June 2013, and a year later the athlete gave birth to a hockey player’s son. After that, rumors about a possible divorce repeatedly appeared, but this information has not yet been confirmed.
