Liverpool also won its fifth game of the Premier League season on Saturday. Coach Jürgen Klopp's team was 3-1 too strong for Newcastle United despite a great goal from Jetro Willems on Anfield.
Willems gave Newcastle the lead in the seventh minute and thus made his first goal in his 'The Magpies'. The 22-time Oranje-international cut out his direct opponent and shot the ball beautifully in the top right corner.
Even before half time Liverpool turned the backlog through two goals from Sadio Mané into a lead and in the second half Mohamed Salah signed for the decision.
Virgil van Dijk played the entire game for Liverpool and Georginio Wijnaldum was exchanged six minutes before the home team. Willems filled the ninety minutes at Newcastle.
With the win, Liverpool is firmly in the lead with fifteen points in the Premier League. The lead on Manchester City is five points, but the number two will visit Norwich City later Saturday.
