The Spanish Fernando Alonso , double world champion of Formula One and winner of the last World Cup of resistance (WEC), will, in preparation for his possible participation in the Dakar Rally , the Lichtenburg 400 , a raid in South Africa in which already he will have as co-pilot his compatriot Marc Coma , with whom he will continue to share the Toyota Hylux in future tests.

This was just announced this Friday by the Japanese team, which confirmed that Coma, 42, five times winner of the Dakar on motorcycles and six times world rally raids champion of the FIM (International Motorcycling Federation) - will be the co-driver of Alonso -de 38- in the Toyota Gazoo Racing team .

Both participate, this Friday and Saturday, in the Lichtenburg 400, the fifth scoring event for the South Africa Rally Raids Championship.

Alonso had planned to participate, out of competition, in the Harrismith 400 -also in South African lands-, but he changed the scene and, after assessing the possibility of doing so outside the competition, the Asturian double world champion of Formula One, will play finally, with all the consequences, the said test; which includes a wide variety of terrain, starts and ends in Lichtenburg and passes through the towns of Coligny and Koster.

" Working with Marc has been fantastic . I have been able to learn a lot from him about rally raids, thanks to his extensive knowledge of the discipline and his experience," said Alonso, who in 2018 said goodbye - at least momentarily - from F1 -category in which he achieved the 32 victories that Spain achieved throughout its history- and that this year repeated triumph in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (France) to capture the World Cup of resistance (WEC).

"In this mode of racing, in which you have to drive hundreds of kilometers on each day, it is very important to feel comfortable with the person next to you in the car," added the great Asturian driver, in statements released by Toyota.
