When Oskarshamn took the step up to SHL for the first time in the club's history this spring, it was a big surprise to most.

And when the team now makes its debut in the highest series, not many people believe that the team will end up anywhere else in the table.

"One match at a time"

And even the players themselves are aware that it will be very tough, and that anything but degradation to the hockey general Swan would be a success.

- It's just to focus on one match at a time and take as many points as we can. Then we'll see how far it goes. If we stay, we have made a fantastic team, ”says Fredrik Pettersson-Wentzel to SVT Sport.

Weak pre-season ending

“PW” is one of the few new acquisitions that has a wealth of experience in SHL games. And he gets to do a lot during the season. This was not least evident during the preseason, where the team finished with two losses (2-3 against Allsvenskan Karlskrona and 1-5 against Rögle). But he doesn't feel any extra pressure given that much of the team's success will depend on him.

- I've rather felt more pressure before. In the past I have played in teams that almost have to win SM gold, and as a goalkeeper then you can hardly have a bad match, because then it is your fault if the team loses, he says, and continues:

- It's my job to stop as many pucks as I can, so it's just to go out and play.

It's not just on the ice that it's been messy lately. In recent weeks there has been a lot of turnover in the squad, with three new acquisitions leaving the club without having played a single series match with the team.

- Obviously it is not optimal, but we made a decision a few weeks ago to dismiss a couple of players, and then we have picked some. It is so in the industry that there are changes all the way, says trainer Håkan Åhnlund.

Is it a sign that you have had some bad scouting, or what is the reason?

- You can draw whatever conclusions we want, but we concluded that it is better to act now than to wait.
