Jarzinho Pieter, the reserve keeper of the national team of Curaçao, has suddenly died. The 31-year-old goalkeeper reportedly had a heart attack.
Pieter was with the national team in Haiti in preparation for the game in the CONCACAF Nations League, which is scheduled for Tuesday evening (local time).
According to local media the keeper didn't feel well, after which he went to bed. He didn't wake up anymore.
Pieter was under contract with SV Vesta in his own country. In his career he came to twelve international matches for the team from Curaçao.
Eloy Room, among others, discussed the death of his teammate on Monday. The former goalkeeper of Vitesse and PSV honored Pieter on Twitter. "Forever in our hearts," he wrote.
It is not known whether the international match between Haiti and Curaçao will take place. On Sunday, Curaçao beat Haiti 1-0 against the home crowd, thanks to a goal from ADO Den Haag-striker Elson Hooi.
RIP Jarzinho Pieter # 22 🙏🏾🇨🇼Avatar
