The stake jump became a real point harvest for Europe in the duel with the United States. Two Americans tore out at the entrance height of 5.35 and one at 5.55. There was only Cole Walsh, who fought bravely but finished in fifth place.

In the European summit it was more even. The duel was mainly between the Piotr Lisek and Armand Duplantis. Both saved jumps early in the competition to stay on the right side of the new rule, which only gives eight jumps in total.

The first demolition for Duplantis came at 5.80 while Piotr Lisek sailed over the mound and took over the lead.

"He's so cruelly stable"

But then there was no talk about it. Duplantis managed in the second attempt and then slipped directly over 5.85 - while Lisek tore out.

- He is so cruelly stable at these heights. These are the ones where the EM vibes when you see him. Then he lined up high-level competitions and then got a discharge at the championship where the real top came, says SVT commentator Jacob Hård.

It was at the European Championships in Berlin last year that Duplantis had his big breakthrough when he managed 18.05 years old.

During the evening's competition in Minsk, Duplantis also chose to make a six meter attempt, a height he has been over twice during the season at the last Finnkampen. But the evening stayed at 5.85 for "Mondo" which is the world second this year after US Sam Kendricks.

The American who jumped 6.06 this year did not participate in Tuesday's competition in Minsk.
