The world's eyes were on the night's UFC gala in Las Vegas and the "MMA feud of the times" between UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and comeback superstar Conor McGregor.

But after the Russian Nurmagomedov finished his opponent with a throttle in the fourth round, everything went completely off track.

The TV pictures show how Nurmagomedov first yelled at McGregor, who was left on the ground, before jumping out into the public sea and starting to fight with the Irish training buddy Dillon Danis.

McGregor assaulted

A huge riot broke out between the two camps and while Conor McGregor was recovering in the cage, he was attacked by a person on Nurmagomedov's team.

- This is by far the craziest and widest thing I have seen in all my years as a commentator within MMA. It's a dark moment for this sport. You are so incredibly disappointed, said UFC's longtime commentator Joe Rogan.

Both McGregor and Nurmagomedov were brought to their changing rooms without being interviewed, which is usually customary. The Russian did not even receive the master belt he had just defended in the octagon.

Concern over safety

In the broadcast, one could hear UFC president Dana White expressing concern about people's safety in the arena if he were to hand out the master belt.

- It is astonishing how Khabib attacks Dillon Danis, it destroys the whole moment after his spectacular victory. And it's so cowardly for Khabib's friend to jump in and attack Conor who didn't want to participate in the brawl, commentator Joe Rogan said.

The actual match? Nurmagomedov dominated in the first two rounds, mainly by breaking down his opponent on the ground but he also floored him with a rock hard right. In the third round, the Irishman suddenly looked sharper, but in the fourth round he had to clap and give up when Nurmagomedov got a firm grip on his neck.

Unclear aftermath

The Nevada Sports Commission, where the fight went, has yet to pay the money for the match and it is unclear what the aftermath of the attack will be.

- We'll see what happens. It could be a shutdown for Khabib, a fine for both guys. Will both get a visa to enter the country again? Both guys are in big trouble. If it becomes a long suspension, his title can be withdrawn, says White.

- What Khabib did was idiotic and we were happy to get him out of the stadium even without the belt, White tells Espn.

According to UFC President Dana White, three people in Nurmagomedov's team were arrested after the incident, but should also have been released by police shortly thereafter.

White also announces that McGregor has refused to report the incident this evening.
