The controversial South African runner, Custer Seminyah, has turned into a footballing world and joined a women's club in her country. Seminyas began training with South Africa's JVW, but will not be able to play until the start of next season in 2020, as the transfer market is already closed.

The JVW club is owned by South African women's captain Janine van Wick. "I am grateful for this opportunity, and I appreciate the love and support I have already received from the team," Seminia said in a statement yesterday.

"I look forward to this new adventure, and I hope to contribute everything I can with the team." Semenya was deeply disappointed by her inability to defend the 800m title at this month's world athletics championships.

Semenya has not been exempted from the new IAF rules on testosterone after the Swiss Federal Supreme Court in July overturned an earlier ruling to halt the rules.

According to the International Athletics Federation (IAAF), maths who are believed to be bisexual and have high levels of testosterone, for a woman, have an unfair advantage over other maths, and hormone levels must be regulated by drugs.

The 28-year-old lost an earlier appeal to the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and then appealed to the Swiss Federal Supreme Court, which indicated that it has not yet fully resolved the case.

Seminar was crowned gold medalist in the 800 meters at the London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016 and at the world championships in 2009, 2011 and 2017.
