Nacho Monreal leaves Arsenal after a period of 6.5 years. The 33-year-old Spanish left back has signed for two years with Real Sociedad in his home country.

Monreal left Málaga for Arsenal midway through the 2012/2013 season and since then came to 251 duels on behalf of 'The Gunners', in which he was good for ten goals and twenty assists. Last season he was still the basic player.

The 22-time Spanish international is the third experienced defender to leave Arsenal this summer. Earlier, Frenchman Laurent Koscielny also returned to his home country - he signed with Girondins de Bordeaux - and Stephan Lichtsteiner left for FC Augsburg.

The number five of the previous Premier League season also won three defenders with David Luiz (Chelsea), Kieran Tierney (Celtic) and William Saliba (Saint-Étienne).

Manager Unai Emery's Arsenal has started the new season with six points from three games. Last weekend, Liverpool lost 3-1 without a chance.
