Majima Majima aiming for participation in the Tokyo Paralympics through powerlifting. The 48-year-old, who once won a silver medal at the Winter Paralympics, changed the competition and once again challenged the big stage.

“Why did I do this? I was regrettable and crying every day.”

Majima, a 21-year-old college student, injured the spinal cord by touching a high-voltage power line during a part-time job. My lower body became inconvenient.

It was sports that supported Majima who was disappointed.
I fell in love with the para ice hockey that was popular in Nagano, and became a silver medalist at the Vancouver Paralympic Games.

Majima, who met powerlifting in his 40s and thought to aim for the Paralympic Games again. “I think I'm happy now that I was able to meet a competition that only has a fight with me at the very end,” he says.

Powerlifting competes for the weight of a barbell lifted by a bench press by athletes with disabilities in the legs.

There was a supporting word in colored paper sent from a para ice hockey mate.

"Other happiness"

"Other joy" is short for "power to please others".
“If you dare to make people happy, as a result, it ’s all for you,” Majima says.

There is a person who wants Majima to be more happy than anyone else by coming to Tokyo Paralympics next year.
I am Katsuyuki Hashimoto, my training companion.

Actually, it was Mr. Hashimoto who made all this.
Powerlifting requires you to fix your feet, so if you buy it, it costs about 700,000 yen.
At the beginning of the competition, Mr. Hashimoto, who is good at welding for Mr. Majima, who did not have a special equipment in the gym, made it from scratch.

Mr. Hashimoto said, “Since Majima will take me medals soon after he started, he will go to the Paralympics and pick medals. People who are working hard want to support themselves naturally.” I talk.

In order to participate in the Paralympic Games, it is necessary to renew your personal best by 40 km or more.

“I feel a little excited when I think that the hard part is to make people smile. After all, I think it ’s very important to have the power of“ other happiness ”.”

Think of the joyful faces of those who can support the tough roads, and head to the barbell.
