For the first time Madeleine Malonga (-78 kg) was crowned World Judo Champion Friday in Tokyo.

Madeleine Malonga (-78 kg) was crowned world judo champion for the first time beating Japan's Shori Hamada, defending champion, by ippon in the final on Friday in Tokyo, at one year of the 2020 Olympics in the Japanese capital .

At the age of 25, it is the first world medal for Malonga, already crowned European Champion in 2018. She brings to the French team her fifth reward of the Japanese week, the third in gold after those conquered by Clarisse Agbegnenou (-63 kg) and Marie-Eve Gahié (-70 kg).
