The set positions in Boedepest were 25-17, 25-13 and 25-15 in favor of the team of national coach Jamie Morrison. The one-sided match only lasted 72 minutes. Hungary should have won 3-1 or 3-0 to prevent elimination.
The Netherlands never once ran into difficulties at the European Championship. Romania, Azerbaijan, Croatia and Estonia were all defeated in group C without a set loss.
The eighth finals of the European Championship, which will be played in Turkey, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia, will start on Sunday. After three matches, the Netherlands was sure of a place among the last sixteen.
The Netherlands hopes to become European champion for the first time since 1995. At the last two editions in 2015 and 2017, the volleyball players had to settle for silver.
