Liverpool and Virgil van Dyke have been named European Footballer of the Year by Juventus's Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona captain Lionel Messi.

Van Dyck managed to shine with his English team over the past two seasons, before he culminated with his victory with the Reds in the Champions League for the 2018-2019 season.

Although Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have dominated world football awards over the past 10 years, Van Dyke's victory in the Champions League was enough to give him the votes of European club coaches to win the continent's player of the year award.
