In his first match of the season, against South Korea's Cho Dae-Song in the Czech Republic a week ago, the accident occurred.

The Swedish two Kristian Karlsson, ranked 25th in the world, was deceived by the Korean and needed to change his foot position quickly. But he then trampled obliquely - and felt something break down.

- It sounded like real. It felt like the whole world would hear the bang, but it was probably just my foot hearing it. But it hurt like Satan. And then I would try to play on, but I could give that up, he tells SVT Sport.

"Was very scared"

It turned out that a ligament in his left foot had been damaged, but he was afraid it would be something even worse.

- I was very scared. I thought it would take a very long time, and had no thoughts on the European Championships, he says, referring to the Team European Championships that begin in French Nantes on Tuesday.

Threw the crutches

But the recovery has gone much faster than expected. Karlsson was able to throw the crutches earlier than expected, and completed his first (light) training yesterday. When SVT Sport reaches him he has just done his second workout, and sits with an ice bag on his foot to bring down the swelling.

- It swells a lot, but it will do for a very long time to come, which I have understood correctly.

"Do everything I can"

But despite that, he now expects games in the European Championships, where Sweden aims for a medal.

- It looks like I should be able to play. I hope to be able to play too full, but I can't answer that - my healing meat has to answer that. But I do everything I can to be as good and ready as I can be.

The European Championships in Nantes is the first championship after the European Championships in Halmstad last year, when Sweden took bronze. And the goal is high.

- We want to pick medals at championships, that's the best there is, says Karlsson, who also sees the European Championship as a good step on the road to the Olympics next year.

- We hope to get some good matches against the toughest nations in the world, and I hope for Germany in a possible final. Those matches are very useful for an Olympics, where there is even more pressure and more snack.
