The fourth stage of the Vuelta a España is another chance on paper for the sprinters, although there is a difficult climb at the start of the final. This Tuesday ride is 175.5 kilometers long and goes from Cullera to El Puig. Follow everything here live.

Good afternoon and welcome to this live blog. My name is Robbert van der Linde and I will keep you informed of all developments in the Vuelta a España today.

  • Fourth stage Vuelta
  • Cullera-El Puig (175.5 km)
  • Another chance for sprinters
  • Roche in red sweater
  • Finish around 5.30 pm

Another 47 km - The riders suddenly get a downpour. Is this a welcome cooling, or is one getting nervous now because of the wet road surface? The chase is put at a low level in any case, so that the lead of the front runners again goes towards the two minutes.

Another 52 km - Úran is now back in the peloton, but does report to the medical car. Looking at the grazes on his arm, the number three in the rankings has fallen. In the meantime, the front runners have passed the intermediate sprint and started the only climb of the day, followed more than a minute later by the large crowd.

Still 56 kilometers - Bad luck for Rigoberto Úran. The Colombian from EF Education First, number three in the general classification, has to change bikes. He doesn't seem to worry too much, but his team will have to bring him back to the peloton soon, because the hunt for the front runners has already begun.

An unfortunate Steven Kruijswijk before he gets into the car. The number three of the Tour de France has to give up because he has too much trouble with his knee.

68 km to go - Suddenly things are going fast with the declining lead of the two leaders. The sprinters' servants turn on and drive in a curse and halve in a curse and a sigh the backlog of Wallays and Cubero, who have two minutes left. Does the peloton want the Belgian and the Spaniard to fall back before the only climb of the day?

82 km to go - Wallays and Cubero's lead still fluctuates around four minutes. In the peloton almost all sprinter teams have put a man on top, although things are not going full steam ahead yet.

Another 100 km - We would almost forget it, but Wallays and Cubero are still leading. The difference is around 4.35 minutes.

Jumbo-Visma confirms once again that Steven Kruijswijk has left the Vuelta. The shadow header has too much trouble with his knee after the fall in the team time trial.

Jumbo-Visma: "Pain was getting worse"
According to his team Jumbo-Visma, Steven Kruijswijk has too much trouble with his knee to continue. "The pain only got worse," said a team spokesperson. The number three of the Tour went down in the team time trial together with some teammates, after suddenly a lot of water had flowed onto the road. Cause turned out to be a leaky swimming pool.

There is confirmation from the organization. The fall in the team time trial during the first stage apparently did not handle Kruijswijk well. De Brabander started with Jumbo-Visma as shadow leader on the Vuelta, but lost almost two minutes in the first hill stage on Sunday. Primoz Roglic has to do less with a strong servant in the remainder of the round.

130 km to go - BORA's work at the front is starting to pay off. Wallays and Cubero see their lead shrink to 5.35.

Still 137 km - The difference between the front runners and the peloton is seven minutes. Signal for BORA-hansgrohe, the team of sprinter Sam Bennett, to assist Team Sunweb in the lead of the big group.

Still 151 km - The difference goes towards the six minutes. Team Sunweb, from red jersey carrier Roche, has now nestled at the head of the peloton, but that has not yet led to a speed acceleration in the peloton.

Last year Wallays managed to trick the sprinters in the Vuelta. The Belgian won the eighteenth stage in Lleida, just staying out of the pack with Norwegian Sven Eryk Byström. Peter Sagan was just short of victory.

162 km to go - The two in front now have more than four minutes ahead of the pack. They are not dangerous for the classification. Wallays is just under eight minutes away, while Cubero has already taken it more than sixteen minutes longer than red jersey carrier Roche.

171 km to go - The first attack is the first to hit. Jelle Wallays (Lotto Soudal) and Jorge Cubero (Burgos-BH) drive away from the pack and grab two minutes in no time.

The riders are getting ready for the unofficial start at 12.55 p.m. After 12 neutralized kilometers, the official go-ahead will be given at 13.19 hours. Despite a climb at about 50 kilometers from the finish line, chances are that it will come to a mass sprint in El Puig after 175 kilometers. Yesterday Sam Bennett was allowed to raise his hands.

The signature of Jumbo-Visma rider George Bennett is now on the start form. The fourth stage will start in half an hour.

Roche enjoys an Irish party in Vuelta
The Vuelta has been an Irish party so far. Nicolas Roche is wearing the red leader's jersey for the second day in a row today, while Sam Bennett was the fastest in the mass sprint yesterday. He is also today one of the favorites. "It is very special that we were both on stage yesterday. I think it is a big thing for Irish cycling," said Roche. "I am very happy for Sam, and also for the Irish cycling."

In about four hours the riders in the Vuelta will be riding the bike for stage four. Given the flat arrival, the chance of a mass sprint is high. The Dutch champion Fabio Jakobsen is one of the candidates for day success.

Stage 4: Cullera - El Puig (175.5 km) The Puerto del Oronet is the only classified climb along the way today, which means it could be another opportunity for the sprinters.🚩Official start at 13h19 # LaVuelta19 #ForBjorg
