The Russian quartet of Artyom Kuzakhmetov, Alexander Sergeyev, Oleg Gusev and Vitaly Ershov took fourth place at the 2019 World Championships in Szeged, Hungary, showing a result of 1 minute 21 seconds, and thereby won a license for the Games in Tokyo.

Another license in this discipline was won by Russians Kira Stepanova, Anastasia Panchenko, Kristina Kovnir and Anastasia Dolgova, who became the ninth in the world championship.
