The first leader of the Tour of Spain, the Colombian Miguel Ángel López, is better known as "Superman" in the world of cycling, a nickname that comes from his brave attitude that prevented two robbers from stealing his first bicycle shortly before compete in the Tour del Porvenir in 2011.
The bike was from an early age the means of transport of Miguel Ángel López, among other functions, to go to school , but his skills were discovered at age 15 by Rafael Acevedo. Precisely when he went with his bicycle to the technician's farm, 15 days before the Tour del Porvenir, he was approached by two thieves, who intimidated him with a knife and demanded that he deliver the bicycle.
Michelangelo was not daunted, defended himself, resisted and faced one of them , but the other who was ready for any reaction, stabbed him in the right leg, without serious consequences. Although injured, he was able to save his greatest treasure: the bicycle.
"They call him 'Superman' for that episode, because he faced the thieves and, although he was stabbed, he faced them. Lopez was marked by that," Acevedo recalled.
"Superman" is the fourth in a family of seven brothers , born on February 4, 1994 in the municipality of Pesca, in Boyacá, a town at 2,600 meters, son of Marlén Moreno and Santiago López.
His first contact with the bicycle was at age 15 and the need to use it to attend school . When he finished the secondary cycle he climbed the mountain bike, but shortly after he tried road cycling and after participating in some local competitions he was discovered by Rafael Acevedo, an exciter who competed in his country and Europe in the 1990s.
In spite of having suffered multiple injuries and inconveniences, Miguel Ángel López, with 25 years of age, presented a record to take into account. Since his triumph at T our del Porvenir in 2014 , he presented in society winning in 2015 a stage of the Tour of Burgos, the Tour of Switzerland and Milan Turin in 2016, 2 stages of the Tour of Spain in 2017 and two third places in the Turn and Turn in 2018.
In 2019 he won the Tour Colombia and the Volta to Catalonia . And in the Tour he has released the red jersey after the triumph of Astana in the initial team chrono. "Superman" put the cape on Torrevieja. And bravery will not be lacking to defend it until Madrid. The road will be long and tortuous, but he knows that life is not easy.
