In six championships, since the 2006 World Cup, and all training matches in between, the United States has been unbeaten in basketball. Last night, however, the Americans saw themselves defeated by Australia in front of 52,000 in the audience in Melbourne. Big match hero became Patty Mills who scored 30 points in total and alone accounted for Australia's last ten points.

"It was fantastic," said Mills after the game.

The United States led by 10 at halftime

The match started off as planned and the American team with the ideal NBA stalemate led by ten points at halftime, led by Kemba Walker who had 22 points in total. But this was Patty Mill's evening. After Joe Ingles put a long third with 3:35 left for the Australian lead with 88-87, the guard took over. A third and then a layup to create a six-point gap down to the Americans and with eleven seconds left, Mills put in a penalty shot to go up a four-point lead and definitely decide the match.

A special match in several ways for Mills that was set against legendary NBA coach Gregg Popovich, the United States team captain, who everyday coaches Mills in the San Antonio Spurs.

- It's a great team and they have been playing together for a long time. They play a cruel form of basketball, said US Harrison Barnes after the game.

Despite many NBA stars in the team, the talk before the World Cup was about the many rebounds from the absolute world servants, including James Harden and Russell Westbrook, to the World Cup squad. And the US's favorite team looks swayed for the World Cup premiere on September 1st.
