• Movistar. End of cycle with the march of Nairo Quintana
  • The stages of the Tour of Spain 2019

The Tour of Spain that will start this Saturday in Torrevieja is presented as one of the most unpredictable in recent years. The absences of Bernal, Froome, Thomas, Dumoulin and Simon Yates leave a wide bouquet of favorites, almost all of them with doubts about their state of form or their real hierarchy in their respective teams. The Movistar , as always, will be protagonists of the race, but Jumbo and Astana present equipment with which to clothe their leaders and give a lot of war. There are more, but these are the 10 main names of the Tour that is about to begin.

  • Richard Carapaz

His impressive victory in the Giro puts Ecuadorian Movistar among the main favorites to the final victory in Madrid. He will suffer in Pau's chrono, but the accumulation of mountain favors him. Doubts arise from the saturation of leaders in their squad and the inactivity that dragged from the Giro to the Tour of Burgos last week.
  • Primoz Roglic

The Slovenian has appeared in the Tour almost at the last minute, since in the first instance the Jumbo announced that he would not have him. If he faces the race in optimal conditions, the current winner of the UAE Tour, Adriatic Tyrrhenian and Romandía, and third in the Giro , is the rival to beat. He is, by far, the best time trial player in liza and aspires to be the first leader after the initial team chrono.
  • Miguel Angel Lopez

After being third in the Vuelta and Giro last year , Supermán aspires to take another leap in his career. The time trial plays against a cyclist whose performance tends to be marked by breakdowns and falls. The Colombian climber, a priori, will share gallons with Ion Izagirre in an Astana that also lines Jakob Fuglsang , newly renovated until 2021.
  • Nairo Quintana

In his last great race at Movistar , the Colombian wants to prove that he is still a cyclist capable of fighting with the best and beating them after two disappointing years. Initial planning designated him as leader of the squad, but the emergence of Carapaz will force him to share gallons , a scenario in which he has never shone or felt comfortable.
  • Steven Kruijswijk

The Dutchman is the only one of the first six of the Tour (he was third) that runs this Tour, although it will be necessary to see if he does it freely or at the service of Roglic in the Jumbo. Although he accumulates three 'top5' in a row in great laps, he always appears relegated in the bets. It is, above all, a very reliable and regular climber, something essential in the Tour.
  • Alejandro Valverde

Together with Quintana and Aru, he is the only one of the 168 participants who has a Tour in his medal winners . Although last year he fought for the triumph until the penultimate day, what is expected of the world champion is spectacle and victories in arrivals on short and demanding ramps. In the absence of the winner in 2018, Simon Yates, will wear race number 1 .
  • Esteban Chaves

Is this Vuelta the one of the resurgence of Chavito ? The Colombian, after amazing in 2016 (second in the Giro and third in the Vuelta) , has spent a couple of difficult years due to injuries and illnesses. Without the Yates brothers, he will have Mitchelton at his service , although his performance is unknown. If it's ok, it's a show guarantee in short efforts.
  • Fabio Aru

Another runner from whom you can expect anything and who aspires to return for their privileges after two years to forget. The winner of the Vuelta 2015 was operated in spring of the iliac artery to correct his physical problems and after being tested in the Tour he arrives in Torrevieja, at the controls of the UAE, wanting to prove that he is still a first-rate climber capable of aspiring to everything.
  • Tadej Pogacar

The 20-year-old Slovenian is the main representative in this Tour of the new generation of cycling, Bernal, Evenepoel, Van der Poel ... In his first year as a professional, the UAE rider has already won Algarve and California . Also watch out for Daniel Felipe Martínez (Education First, 24), Sergio Higuita (Education First, 22) and Tao Geoghegan Hart (Ineos, 24).
  • Sam Bennett

As usual, the list of sprinters is not one of the great attractions of the Tour. The most prominent of them is the Bora Irishman, who has won three stages on the BinckBank Tour. Fernando Gaviria (UAE), John Degenkolb (Trek), Luka Mezgec (Mitchelton) and Fabio Jakobsen (Deceuninck) will be his main rivals in the few massive arrivals of this Tour.
