Bibiane Schoofs and Quirine Lemoine survived the first round of the qualification for the US Open on Monday evening (local time), following Richèl Hogenkamp.

The 31-year-old Schoofs dealt with Ulrikke Eikeri in two sets: 6-4 and 6-3. The number 160 in the world placed no less than five breaks against the 26-year-old Norwegian (WTA-227) and that was more than enough to continue without losing a set.

In the second qualifying round, Schoofs faces Slovakian Kristina Kucova. The number 153 in the world was too strong in its opening game for the 15th placed Belgian Greet Minnen.

In her career, Schoofs has never achieved the main schedule of a Grand Slam tournament. She also participated in the qualifications for the Australian Open and Roland Garros this year, but failed in the second and first round respectively.

Always here for this ... 🌅😍🎾🙌

Spicy assignment for Lemoine

27-year-old Lemoine had more difficulty than Schoofs in reaching the second round at Flushing Meadows. After a marathon match of 2 hours and 38 minutes, the global number 257 was well ahead of the Croatian Tereza Mrdeza: 1-6, 7-5 and 7-6 (5).

Lemoine, who in the past only at Roland Garros (2017) achieved the main schedule of a Grand Slam tournament and when was eliminated in the first round, waits a tough task in the second round. She then takes on the Spanish Paula Bedosa, the number 91 in the world.

In total, six Dutch people hope to qualify for the US Open. Besides Hogenkamp - she already reached the second qualifying round on Monday evening - Schoofs and Lemoine are Arantxa Rus, Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove and Tallon Griekspoor. Three games must be won to reach the main tournament.

The US Open will start in New York on Monday 26 August. Novak Djokovic won the last Grand Slam tournament of the year last year with the men, Naomi Osaka triumphed with the women.
