Fabio Jakobsen is standing for his debut in a big round. The Dutch sprinter is part of the eight-man selection of Deceuninck-Quick-Step for the Vuelta a España that starts on Saturday.
The 22-year-old Jakobsen has to win Quick-Step victories in the sprint stages. De Brabander gets help from the experienced Argentinian Maximiliano Richeze, who has to start the sprint as a lead-outman.
Jakobsen has never participated in a big round, but this year he already gave off his calling card. The cycling talent won the Scheldeprijs, stages in the Tour of the Algarve, the Tour of Turkey and the Tour of California, and he became Dutch champion on the road.
The Vuelta selection of Quick-Step, which travels to Spain without classification riders, is completed by Eros Capecchi, Rémi Cavagna, Tim Declercq, Philippe Gilbert, James Knox and Zdenek Stybar.
