Lionel Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, among others, were nominated Monday by world football association FIFA for the Puskás Award, the prize for the most beautiful goal of the past season.
Messi received the election for his fine marker in the FC Barcelona game against Real Betis and Ibrahimovic for his sublime volley in the LA Galaxy duel with Toronto.
Among the nominees are three women, namely Ajara Nchou (for Cameroon against New Zealand), Amy Rodriguez (for Utah Royals against Sky Blue) and Billie Simpson (for Cliftonville against Sion Swifts).
The other five nominees are Matheus Cunha (for RB Leipzig against Bayer Leverkusen), Juan Fernando Quintero (for River Plate against Racing Club), Fabio Quagliarella (for Sampdoria against Napoli), Andros Townsend (for Crystal Palace against Manchester City) and Daniel Zsori (for Debrecen against Ferencvaros).
Salah won the Puskás Award last year
Football fans can vote for their favorite goal up to and including September 1, leaving a top three and 'FIFA legends' will select a winner at the FIFA gala in Milan on September 23.
Of the nominees this year, only Ibrahimovic has won the Puskás Award, which has existed since 2009, once. The Swedish striker made the best goal of the season in 2013 with an unparalleled turn against England.
Mohamed Salah won the Puskás Award last year. The Liverpool attacker defeated with his beautiful individual action against Everton Cristiano Ronaldo (second) and Giorgian De Arrascaeta (third).
