Bayern Munich has asked Arjen Robben for permission to give number 10 to newcomer Philippe Coutinho. That well-known chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Monday at the presentation of the Brazilian.
Bayern planned not to use the numbers of the stopped attackers Robben and Franck Ribéry (number 7) out of respect for the club icons next season. Coutinho, who comes from FC Barcelona on a rental basis, however, preferred to play with number 10.
"Hasan Salihamidzic (sporting director, ed.) Spoke to Arjen about the back number," said Rummenigge on Monday at the presentation of Coutinho. "Arjen indicated that he has no problem with it and wishes Coutinho all the best. He thinks number 10 is perfect for Coutinho."
Robben was taken over from Real Madrid in 2009 by Bayern and played from the very first moment with back number 10. At the end of last season, the 35-year-old Groninger left in a free transfer with the 29-time national champion and then decided to put an end to his career.

"Coutinho direct reinforcement at the forefront"
Coutinho is rented by Bayern for a year from FC Barcelona, after which the German top club can finally take over the Catalans for 120 million euros. Rummenigge has many expectations of the Brazilian, who can play both in midfield and in attack.
"We have been coming for a while, so we are very happy that we were able to complete the transfer," said 63-year-old Rummenigge. "With his creativity and extraordinary qualities, Philippe is a player who immediately strengthens our vanguard."
Coutinho hopes that, just like Robben, who played 309 official games for Bayern in ten years, he can play an important role for the German top club. "This is a new adventure for me. I have a lot of ambitions, just like Bayern, and I am sure I can achieve it together with my new teammates."
27-year-old Coutinho can make his debut on Saturday for Bayern, which started the competition on Friday with a 2-2 tie against Hertha BSC. The team of coach Niko Kovac will then visit Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga.
