Laurens De Plus won the BinckBank Tour on Sunday. The 23-year-old Belgian from Jumbo-Visma rode Tim Wellens out of the difficult jersey in the difficult seventh and final stage and booked his first victory as a professional.
The Belgian Oliver Naesen won the now traditional final stage to Geraardsbergen by beating his fellow countryman Greg Van Avermaet in the sprint. The Plus was the third man in the leading group and took enough time to take over the first place in the rankings.
Wellens started the last leg with a 12-second lead on De Plus, but Lotto Soudal's Belgian was unable to follow when De Plus rode away 20 kilometers from the finish with Naesen and Van Avermaet.
Last month, the Plus was an important pawn in the mountain stages of the Tour de France for the number three in the final classification Steven Kruijswijk. He finished 23rd in France. There is also a third place in a Vuelta stage (2018) and a second place in a stage in the Ster ZLM (2017) on his honors list.
