Philippe Coutinho plays at least the rest of the season for Bayern Munich. 'Der Rekordmeister' takes over the Brazilian on a rental basis from FC Barcelona and has also negotiated an option to purchase in the agreement.

The 27-year-old Coutinho was sidelined in Barcelona due to the tough competition and was allowed to look for another club. Bayern reports that the offside player, who can also manage as an attacking midfielder, will be medically tested sometime in the coming days.

"In my eyes not only Bayern Munich, but the entire Bundesliga and the whole of Germany can be happy that such a big player comes to our competition," says a satisfied trainer Niko Kovac on the Bayern site.

Coutinho only played for Barcelona since January 2018, which paid an amount of 120 million euros to get him loose at Liverpool. Because of that transfer fee, he was the most expensive player in the world after his fellow countryman Neymar.

Due to a hamstring injury, Coutinho had to miss the first matches of 2018, but he played 22 games for Barcelona in the second half of the season. In it, Coutinho scored ten times and gave six assists.

Last season, Coutinho did not manage to secure a permanent place in the team, although he played no fewer than 54 games (eleven goals and five assists). With the arrival of Antoine Griezmann this summer, he was finally allowed to look for another club.

Coutinho played alongside Liverpool and Barcelona for the Brazilian Vasco de Gama, where he also went through the youth training, Internazionale (2010-2013) and Espanyol (2012). He has 55 international matches for Brazil, with which he won the Copa América this summer.

Both Barcelona and Bayern started the new season in their own country on Friday evening. Coutinho saw from the stands how the Catalans lost the away match against Athletic de Bilbao (1-0), while the Germans did not pass Hertha BSC in front of their own audience (2-2).

Coutinho can normally make his debut for Bayern on Saturday 24 August. The reigning national champion will then visit Schalke 04.
