Less than two weeks have passed since the funeral of boxer Maxim Dadashev, who died July 23 after a fight with Puerto Rican Sabriel Matias. At the moment, his widow Elizabeth Apushkina, together with the Boxing Federation of Russia, is preparing a lawsuit against the Maryland Athletic Commission, which was organizing the fight. In addition, all the necessary checks are carried out to determine what caused the tragedy.

“While the investigation is ongoing, I cannot draw any conclusions and make loud statements. But I want to say one thing: according to its results, when everything will be clear, I will make every effort to ensure that those responsible for his death are punished, ”Apushkina said on Match TV.

Meanwhile, new details of the last days of the life of the Russian appear. Many expressed confidence that his own determination could bring him. Before the important fight for the status of the mandatory contender for the IBF junior welterweight title, he followed an extremely strict diet and did not leave the gym. All persuasion of loved ones to protect themselves was futile.

According to trainer Anton Kadushin, already at that moment the first signs appeared that Dadashev needed the help of specialists. At the same time, he denies the fact that the athlete entered the ring despite the prohibitions of doctors.

“Probably, in the last three to four weeks he began the stage of overwork. Maxim slept badly. Although after weighing, he admitted to me that he had a good rest for the first time, and was also pleased with the training camp. Maxim regularly underwent all medical examinations, so I consider such assumptions nonsense. For those who do not understand the whole situation, I’ll just say that the boxer may not be allowed to fight, even if the dentist detects caries, ”Kadushin explained.

This information was also confirmed by Apushkin. In addition, she said that Dadashev made attempts to reschedule the meeting in the fall. However, he was not given guarantees that the promotion will re-organize the battle, in connection with which Maxim decided to enter the ring.

Recall that the match with Matthias was stopped after the 11th round at the request of the Russian team and his second Buddy McGirt. However, relatives admitted that from the very beginning they paid attention to his unusual behavior. So, according to the widow of the athlete, in the ring, he did not act as it was agreed in advance. Champion of Russia Alexei Mazur also noted this feature.

“I did not recognize Maxim, because he did not work in his own manner. It feels like I was somehow extinct, ”said the boxer.

Disputes about at what point it was worth stopping the fight have been going on from the first day after the tragedy. Moreover, not only the referee Kenny Chevalier is accused of the incident, but also McGirt, who was supposed to respond earlier to the worsening condition of the ward. However, according to Kadushin, in this situation, the coach could not do otherwise.

“It is difficult to decide to end the fight when you are in a corner with a boxer, and even in such a status duel. Therefore, probably, Buddy also did not see anything fatal. After the 11th round, he did not consult with Maxim, but already stated a fact. It was rather a formality. The second tried to calm him down, because the boxer might inadequately react if someone throws a towel behind him, ”the specialist said.

Interestingly, Kadushin himself was supposed to be in the corner of Dadashev that evening.

“For two months I applied for a visa, but, unfortunately, they refused me. I don’t know how I would have acted in place of the seconds. But now, looking at these photos, I understand that the severity of the situation of Maxim could be determined by his eyes. This was subsequently confirmed when Lisa (Apushkina. - RT ) informed me that he suffered the first stroke during the fight, ”the coach added.

Both representatives of the Boxing Federation of Russia and relatives of Dadashev are confident that the lack of professionalism of the doctors on duty in the arena was another reason for what happened. At the most important moment, there were no stretchers nearby, and the Russian was forced to leave the ring on his own. In addition, the doctors failed to determine the severity of his situation on time, as a result of which precious minutes were lost.

Apushkina admitted that the day of the death of her husband became the hardest for her in life. When she arrived at the hospital, she was immediately informed that he had no chance of survival. At that time, Dadashev suffered trepanation of the skull and was brought into a state of artificial coma.

“At that moment, I just collapsed the whole world. I have never seen such a nightmare. The most beloved person in the world lies on a bed, and about 15 pieces of wires and tubes stick out from it. I looked at these devices, saw that the blood pressure went down. I went to the doctor who made the round, and he said that Maxim was going to die. I sat at his feet and saw his last breath, ”the boxer's widow shared her memories.

Tragedy united the world of boxing. Athletes, coaches and ordinary fans began to donate money to a special fund created to support the family of a Russian citizen with a two-year-old son. It was reported that Matthias refused his fee for the victory, but Apushkina denied this information, calling it a competent PR move.

“Nobody wants his athlete to look somehow wrong. By the way, McGirt never called me. I did not express condolences, nothing. But the trainer for physical training Donatas Janusevicius is the person who was constantly with Maxim. For him it is the same tragedy as for us, ”she concluded.

The first coach of Dadashev Oleg Sokolov is sure that professional boxing is a business in which everyone thinks only of himself. In his opinion, Maxim, who repeatedly won the championships of the country and the world, should not have left amateur sports.

“Each round is advertising, money. At 18, the boy became a master of sports of international class. Why did he need to be pulled into the ring? But it was taken by other people who wanted to make a career on it and probably did. And the boy was destroyed, ”Sokolov noted.
