The Argentine Leo Messi , the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo and the Dutch Virgil van Dijk are the three nominees for the UEFA Player of the Year Award , whose winner will be revealed during the draw of the group stage of the Champions League next day 29 in Monaco.

Messi was the top scorer of the Champions League (12 goals) and champion of the Spanish League, where he won his tenth title with Barcelona with 36 goals.

Cristiano was the top scorer of the final phase of the League of Nations in which he was champion with his selection and achieved his first league title in Italy with Juventus and Van Dijk was chosen player of the final of the Champions League in which he conquered the title with Liverpool, as well as finalist of the League of Nations.

UEFA confirmed the name of the three finalists for the award that a year ago picked up Real Madrid's Croatian Luka Modric , who were selected by a jury composed of 80 coaches from the clubs participating in the Champions League and the Europa League, along with 55 journalists from each of the UEFA member federations selected by the European Sports Media (ESM) group.

Each of them chose a list of three players and had to assign each one a score of five, three and one. The coaches could not vote for players of their own team.

In addition to the three finalists, UEFA unveiled the other seven players who scored the most :

4 Alisson Becker (BRA / Liverpool) 57 points

5 Sadio Mané (SEN / Liverpool) 51 points

6 Mohamed Salah (EGI / Liverpool) 49 points
