Manchester United convincingly won the top match against Chelsea in the first round of the Premier League. The team of head coach Frank Lampard, who made his debut with the London team, was beaten 4-0.
Marcus Rashford was the celebrated man at United with two goals. The striker used a penalty in the eighteenth minute and made the final decision in the 67th minute, two minutes after 2-0 from Anthony Martial.
Paul Pogba did not score, but played an important role with two assists. The Frenchman gave the pass on the second goal of Rashford and on the 4-0 of substitute Daniel James.
Manchester United is one goal short after the first round of play together with Manchester City to lead the Premier League. The Dutch champion won 0-5 on Saturday at West Ham United.
Lampard, who was appointed to succeed Maurizio Sarri after last season, saw Chelsea miss two huge opportunities in the first half. Both Emerson and Tammy Abraham hit the bar, after which 'The Bleus' barely got involved in the two half.
Arsenal starts with a narrow answer
Arsenal started the new season with a narrow win at Newcastle United. Thanks to a goal from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang it became 0-1 on St. James' Park on Sunday.
The winning goal fell in the 58th minute, after Ainsley Maitland-Niles reached the ball faster than Jetro Willems and then customized Aubameyang. The Gabonese striker, who became top scorer of the Premier League with 22 goals shared last season, simply tapped in.
Arsenal strengthened this transfer period with, among others, David Luiz (Chelsea), Kieran Tierney (Celtic), Nicolas Pépé (Lille) and Dani Ceballos (Real Madrid, rent). None of the acquisitions received a base place from trainer Unai Emery.
Willems made his debut at Newcastle in the 54th minute as a substitute. The defender came over from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer, where he had little playing time last season.
Just like Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Brighton & Hove Albion, Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur also opened the England season this weekend with a win. On Sunday at 5.30 pm the topper between Manchester United and Chelsea will be on Old Trafford.
