Morocco's Wydad Casablanca president Said Naciri said Thursday that his club will challenge the decision of the African Football Confederation (CAF) Disciplinary Committee (CAF) to approve Esperance's victory in the African Champions League.

"The decision of the disciplinary committee did not do justice to us, so we decided to go to the appeal committee because we consider our demands legitimate," Nassiri told Reuters.

After its meeting in Cairo on Wednesday, the committee issued several decisions, including considering Wydad a loser in the final match played in May last year at Rades Stadium in Tunisia, with a fine of $ 50,000 for refusing to continue.

Esperance took the lead in the return leg before Wydad equalized, but the referee canceled it for offside, sparking protests from the Moroccan team.

Wydad demanded a return to the technique of video assistant referee (FAR), but was surprised by her absence at Rades Stadium, to increase his anger and refuse to return to resume the game. The two teams drew 1-1 in the first leg in Morocco.

Lawyers for the Wydad Casablanca team are arguing that the disciplinary committee is not competent to say that the Moroccan champions have withdrawn from the final second leg, because this is supposed to be the prerogative of the club competitions committee.

Wydad's lawyers will offer access to FIFA rules that allow for replays in such cases.

Last week, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturned the decision to reinstate the final, and asked CAF to refer the case to the appropriate committee for decision, after the two clubs resorted to appeal against the decision to postpone the announcement of the champion.

The court decision, based in Switzerland, left the final fate in the hands of the African Union after the cancellation of the original match and Esperance won.

After a two-hour hiatus, Esperance were given the trophy and medals of the winning team, but were asked to return it after the African Union's executive committee decided to repeat the game at a neutral stadium because of "unsafe conditions".

After appeals from both clubs, the Sports Court ruled that the AU executive committee "does not have the authority" to return the final and overturned the decision.

Esperance became the third team to retain the continental title after winning the championship last year.
