Manchester United has strengthened Monday with Harry Maguire. The 26-year-old English defender comes for almost 88 million euros from Leicester City, releasing Virgil van Dijk as the most expensive defender in the world.
Maguire signs a six-year contract with United until the summer of 2015. He had a continuing commitment with Leicester, which enabled the 'Foxes' to request a high transfer fee.
Van Dijk disappears from the record books due to the transfer of Maguire. In January 2018, he exchanged Southampton 84.5 million euros for Liverpool. The last few days it became clear that Maguire would exceed that amount and that is now final.
Maguire has been playing for Leicester City since the summer of 2017, which had just won the league title for the first time in club history. He has since come to 76 official games in which he scored five goals.
In his time at Leicester, Maguire also became the international of the English eltal. He now has twenty international matches behind his name, including the semi-final of the Nations League against the Netherlands (1-3 defeat).
