Frenkie de Jong made an impression on Sunday at his first match at Camp Nou as a player of FC Barcelona. The midfielder was chosen as the best player in a 2-1 exhibition game won with Arsenal.
The 22-year-old De Jong, who was taken over from Ajax for 75 million euros this summer, was in Barcelona for the first time in the battle for the Trofeu Joan Gamper. He was exchanged halfway - just like ten others.
Halfway through it was 0-1 due to a goal from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. After the break, Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored his own goal and Luis Suárez made it 2-1 just before the end. Lionel Messi stayed on the Barcelona side.
The Trofeu Joan Gamper is an annual friendly competition at Camp Nou. Barcelona won the last seven editions.
Last month, De Jong made his unofficial debut in a 1-2 match friendly game with Chelsea. He also played against Vissel Kobe (2-0 win). Barcelona is playing friendly against Napoli on Thursday and Sunday.
De Jong can officially make his debut on Friday, August 16, when the Spanish champion in the league visits Athletic Bilbao.
