"We will investigate and find out why this happened."

On the death of the Russian welterweight boxer Maxim Dadashev became known on Tuesday evening. 28-year-old athlete died in a hospital in Maryland (USA). According to representatives of the team of Maxim, the boxer could not stand the heart against the background of complications after injuries received in a fight with Puerto Rican Subriel Matias.

“I feel terrible, I am in complete despair after this news, I regret to him and my condolences to his family. He was a great boxer, I would like to have two boxers like him. Maxim was the best, he was a terrific man and hardworking athlete. We will all miss him, ”- said Tass coach Dadashev American Buddy McGirt.

“From now on, boxers need to be much stricter with medical tests, examinations that they take, athletes should be more attentive to this,” the agency’s source added.

They expressed their condolences to the relatives and friends of the fighter in the Russian Boxing Federation, promising to investigate the circumstances of the tragedy and provide lifelong payments to the athlete's family.

“The FBI undertakes to transport Maxim’s body to Russia.” We will assume all costs and investigate the circumstances of Dadashev's death. We will conduct an appropriate investigation and find out why this happened. It is necessary to bring the matter to the end, ”said President of the Federation Umar Kremlin.

Readiness to provide the necessary assistance in delivering Dadashev’s body to their homeland was also announced at the Russian Embassy in the USA

Dadashev suffered serious brain damage during a battle with Puetoric Sabriel Matias in Oxon Hill. The fight was stopped by representatives of the Russian boxer in the 11th round. At the same time later, the second and coach of the Russian, Buddy McGirt, said that he could not convince Dadashev to end the fight early.

“I saw that he was missing more and more clean blows as the fight went on and asked himself if it was worth it. One blow can change the life of this guy, I didn’t want to allow it. He preferred to be angry with me for a day or two than the rest of his life, ”McGirth FightNews quotes.

In the breaks between rounds, the second really literally begged Dadashev to stop the fight, which did not hide from the attention of the cameras, but the Russian did not want to give up.

“I will stop the fight, I will stop. Max, you miss too much. You miss too much. Please, Max, let me do this, okay? Look at me, please. You miss too much, ”coach Dadasheva said.

“If I do not do it, the referee will do it. You understand me? If I don’t do it, the referee will do it, please. Max, please come on, ”asked McGirt.

Already on the way from the ring to the locker room, Dadashev felt bad and lost consciousness. On the "ambulance" he was taken to hospital with suspected cerebral edema. There, the boxer had an emergency craniotomy and introduced him into a medication coma. The doctors considered the patient's condition as critical. However, the manager of the Russian Egis Klimas spoke more optimistic.

“Dadashev started swelling of the brain, so he removed the right side of the skull. Within a couple of days, the edema should decrease. Let's hope that part of the skull will be returned to the place. The doctor says that Max can return to normal life, ”said Klimas on July 20.

On Sunday, the 21st, representatives of the boxer said that an accurate diagnosis and prognosis on the state of health of Dadashev could be made only after a couple of days. Also in the United States to the athlete flew his wife.

Dadashev began his professional career in boxing in April 2016. In the first fight, he defeated the American Darin Hampton. Following Maxim turned out to be stronger than his opponents in 12 matches, which all took place in the United States. The defeat of Mathias was the first in the professional career of Maxim. At the amateur level, he several times became the winner of the national championship.

Simakov's death and Abdusalamov chained to a carriage

Unfortunately, the tragic incident with Dadashev was not the first in world boxing. Representatives of this sport often receive severe brain injuries, which sometimes lead to death.

So, in 2011, after the fight with Sergei Kovalyov, who is currently the WBO world welterweight champion, another Russian boxer, Roman Simakov, died.

The fight took place in Yekaterinburg, and the future champion title holder looked much stronger than the opponent. In turn, Simakov missed one strong blow after another, but found the strength to continue the fight. However, in the seventh round, the referee still stopped the bout. Kovalev was awarded a victory by technical knockout.

Simakov, already in the ring, lost consciousness and was taken to hospital, where he fell into a coma. Unfortunately, the life of the boxer could not be saved, and he died without regaining consciousness. The cause of death was severe brain injury and brain contusion.

After this tragedy, Kovalyov intended to retire from the sport, but in the end he continued his career, and in 2016 he transferred the entire fee received for the fight to Isaac Chilemba to the Simakov family.

Another well-known Russian boxer Magomed Abdusalamov survived in a similar situation, but remained confined to a wheelchair. In 2013, a talented Dagestan fighter had a tough match with Cuban Mike Perez and was defeated on points.

After the fight, the athlete felt bad, but medical assistance was provided to him very late, which ultimately prevented him from returning to normal life. Magomed was put into an artificial coma and removed part of the skull to reduce the effects of cerebral edema.

Three weeks later, Abdusalamov came out of a coma, but he failed to fully recover. He is still confined to a wheelchair, and the right side of his body is completely paralyzed. The boxer family managed to sue $ 22 million for a medical error in New York State.

In 2018, ex-champion Adonis Stevenson was injected into an artificial coma. After the defeat of the Ukrainian Alexander Gvozdika, a Canadian was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage. The doctors refused to give any predictions about the health of the athlete, but he still managed to recover.
