FC Twente has strengthened itself on Wednesday with Emil Berggreen. The 26-year-old striker signs a contract for one year in Enschede, with the option for another season.

Berggreen was transfer-free after his contract with the German 1. FSV Mainz 05 expired this summer. The Dane came to Mainz due to injury time in three years to only fourteen games, in which he scored four times.

"The club is back at the highest level and the plan that FC Twente has appealed to me very much," said Berggreen on the FC Twente site.

"I had nice conversations with the trainer and Ted (van Leeuwen, ed.) And they showed that they really wanted to capture me. The game that they want to play fits me offensively with real wingers."

Berggreen is the seventh reinforcement for FC Twente. Earlier this summer the Tukkers already attracted Julio Pleguezuelo, Paul Verhaegh, Lindon Selahi, José Matos, Keito Nakamura and Giorgi Aburjania.

Technical director Ted van leeuwen is happy with the arrival of the 1.94 tall Dane. "A player who fits into FC Twente's tradition, big strong strikers. Vennegoor, Janko, De Jong, Nkufo, just some examples."
